What is the difference between Korean age and international age?โผ
Korean age (์ธ๋ ๋์ด) counts from 1 at birth and everyone ages by 1 on January 1st. International age (๋ง ๋์ด) starts at 0 and increases on each birthday. A person born on December 31 would be 2 in Korean age on January 1, but still 0 in international age.
Which age system is now legally used in Korea?โผ
Since June 2023, Korea officially uses international age (๋ง ๋์ด) for all legal and administrative purposes. Korean age is still used informally in daily conversation, but official documents, medical records, and legal matters all use international age.
How is the Chinese zodiac animal determined for my birth year?โผ
The Chinese zodiac cycles through 12 animals every 12 years: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. Your zodiac is based on the lunar year of birth. People born in January-February may fall under the previous year's zodiac if born before Lunar New Year.
